Pre-Conference | Maximize Your Library Impact With Strategic Collection Promotion
Tuesday November 12, 2024 1:00pm - 4:00pm CST
NOTE: This workshop requires separate registration to attend! This session is full.

Surveys conducted by the American Library Association continue to show that the top reason people get a library card is for access to books and reading material. In fact, the number of items circulated in U.S. public libraries in 2022 was 1.48 billion. That's more than 4 items for every person! For all libraries, including academic, school, and special libraries, the collection is the core of library work. And your library can use the appeal of books and reading materials strategically, to draw users into the library and to funnel them toward other services and resources.

In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to engage your entire community with your collection, reaching readers in the places where they are both looking for reading suggestions and places where they didn't even know the library could help them. We’ll share strategies for connecting those core library users with other important services offerings and boost circulation and use of your library overall, while building a loyal connection with your community of readers.

In this workshop, you will learn to:
  • Coordinate Collection Promotion: Learn the importance and mechanics of aligning your collection promotion efforts with your library's overall goals and strategy.
  • Implement Best Practices: Discover innovative ideas and best practices for promoting your collection through print, digital platforms, and personal interactions with your community.
  • Boost Usage and Engagement: Use your collection as a strategic tool in marketing to increase usage of other library services, including programs and databases, fostering a loyal community of readers.
