About me
I am an academic librarian and information literacy instructor who has been working in libraries since 1992. I received my MLIS degree in 2000 from Western University (UWO) and I have worked as a librarian in public, hospital, and academic libraries. Currently, I am the Coordinator of Library Outreach at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CUNY) in New York City.At the College of Staten Island, my responsibilities include coordinating the library’s marketing and outreach activities, engage in campus community partnerships, and I assist in the assessment of library services and resources. I serve as the liaison to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, Office of Student Life, and the Center for Global Engagement.I teach the information literacy course in our department, LIB 102: Beyond Google: Research for College Success. I am also the library liaison to the Psychology department and I provide library instruction classes in Psychology and many other disciplines.My research interests include library marketing, outreach, and UX design. I am most interested in how users interact with the library’s physical and virtual touch points; specifically the web site, signage, and promotional materials. I have written and presented on topics ranging from library marketing strategies, faculty outreach, library marketing campaigns, library jargon, and library signage.I have been the co-chair of the annual PR Xchange Awards Competition since 2014. In September 2020, the PR Xchange Awards was managed by the new Core division of the American Library Association.Locally, I co-chair local meet-ups for ACRL National’s Library Marketing and Outreach Discussion Group. I was also a member of the founding committee of the Library Marketing and Communications Conference (LMCC) from 2015-2019.Currently, I am the founder and editor-in-chief of the open-access, peer reviewed journal, Marketing Libraries Journal, which was launched in Fall 2017.I am the author of three books; Library Signage and Wayfinding Design (2021), Library Marketing Basics (2019), and Engaging Diverse Learners: Teaching Strategies for Academic Librarians (co-authored with Scott Sheidlower)(2017).I hold a BA honours from Concordia University, an MLIS from Western University (UWO), an MA from the University of Waterloo, and a BEd. from Brock University. I am currently a PhD candidate in my 9th year of doctoral studies at the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, SUNY.
